VENICE, CA — Wednesday, February 25, 2026 — A coordinated multi-agency homelessness cleanup operation unfolded Wednesday morning along Rose Avenue in Venice as the City of Los Angeles continued sanitation and public-safety efforts in the coastal neighborhood. Several individuals were observed camping on the sidewalk along Rose Avenue at the time crews arrived. They were directed to vacate the area and informed that any property left behind would be subject to removal under Los Angeles Municipal Code §56.11, which prohibits sitting, lying, sleeping, or storing personal belongings in public rights-of-way that obstruct access or create health and safety hazards. The cleanup was conducted under a posted 48-hour Notice of Major Cleaning, in accordance with city protocol. The operation was led by the Department of Public Works, with support from the Los Angeles Police Department, Environmental Compliance Inspectors (ECI), Clean Harbors Environmental Services, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and members of the Venice Beach BID Safe Team and Venice Beach BID Clean Team, who assisted in the operation. After individuals cleared the area, sanitation crews removed accumulated debris associated with the encampment. Environmental Compliance Inspectors and hazardous-materials specialists identified and safely removed potentially toxic items, including batteries and aerosol containers. Clean Harbors personnel managed the disposal of hazardous substances, while Public Works teams cleared trash and bulky debris from surrounding sidewalks and nearby access points. Representatives from Councilwoman Traci Park’s office were present to coordinate inter-agency communication on site. LAHSA outreach workers offered food, bottled water, hygiene kits, and referrals to available supportive services for those impacted by the cleanup. No arrests or citations were reported. City officials continue to frame such operations as part of a broader strategy to maintain public accessibility and address health and safety concerns in shared spaces, while pairing enforcement measures with outreach-based assistance. Officials also acknowledge that some individuals return to previously cleared areas after operations conclude, often reestablishing temporary encampments until subsequent scheduled cleanings.
