A great way to find some interesting sounding lines is to combine approach note patterns with a melodic motive. In this lesson, I demonstrate an improvisation exercise using the combination of those two concepts. It can also be used with most simple guitar licks. Just try approach notes on each note in the motive, and then try combining the result with other notes to create a more complete idea. This lesson is based on the chapter on approach note patterns in my ebook, "Improvising with Motives." My Patreon shop: / shop I used a drum loop from Yurt Rock to create the backing track. Every other sound apart from the drums is recorded with a Heritage 535 guitar into a Fractal Fm3 amp modeller. I used a Fender Vibrolux model on the Fm3 with a JHS Morning Glory in front.
