We met up with Joe Dederichs from Dederichs Motorsports to talk about the different types of TREMEC transmissions and which cars are a good fit for each transmission. The TR 4050 is great for all truck and jeep applications, and it comes in three versions. One is universal, that works for GM, Ford, Mopar, or Jeep in four-wheel drive. Then thereβs a Ford model that has a two-wheel drive, and a GM model that also has a two-wheel drive. Thereβs also a T-5 Transmission for Ford that shifts smoothly and has a capacity of 300 foot-pounds of torque. This option is perfect for a budget, street, or weekend track car build if youβre working within the power range. The TKX 5-Speed Transmission has replaced the TKO after several improvements were made, like reducing the size to fit in more cars and using a three-piece ring set on the synchronizers. There are also options for relocating the shifter with this transmission, depending on your needs. The TKX is rated at 600 foot-pounds of torque and can shift at 7,500 RPM, so it can handle a good deal of mass. When deciding between a 5-speed vs. 6-speed transmission, the application will mainly determine your decision. 6-speeds offer more power and a wider gear range but take up more space and are harder to fit into certain models. The T56 Transmission has come a long way since originally being made for the Viper by BorgWarner. This version now has stronger gears, a higher torque rating, among other upgrades. The T56 is popular largely because the shifter position is different than the regular Magnum positions. The Magnum 6-Speed Transmissions check all the boxes for durability and fitment, whether youβre doing a budget build or working with a performance car. Last but not least, we have the Magnum XL Transmission, designed for S197, S550, and S650 Ford chassis. This also comes in a GM application for Gen 5 and 6 Camaros. The main distinction of this Magnum is the shifter location directly on the rail for quick shifting during hard acceleration. No matter your needs, TREMEC has a selection of transmissions to help your car thrive. Products from this episode: TREMEC TR 4050 Transmission for GM https://www.speedwaymotors.com/TREMEC...
