In these verses, Jesus paints a powerful and almost humorous picture: a man trying to perform delicate eye surgery while a massive beam sticks out of his own eye. The exaggeration makes the lesson unforgettable. 1. The Danger of a Critical Spirit It is easy to spot a “mote” — a small fault — in someone else. We see their tone, their temper, their mistakes. Yet we often overlook the “beam” in our own lives — pride, bitterness, jealousy, unforgiveness. A critical spirit blinds us to our own need for grace. 2. The Call to Self-Examination Jesus does not say ignore your brother’s fault. Instead, He says, “First.” Before correcting others, we must allow God to search us. Revival always begins personally, not publicly. When we humbly examine ourselves: We become more compassionate. We speak truth with gentleness. We correct with love instead of superiority. 3. Clear Vision Comes After Humility Only when the beam is removed can we “see clearly.” Spiritual clarity follows spiritual humility. The goal is not condemnation — it is restoration. A heart that has been cleansed by God handles others tenderly. 🙏 Prayer Lord, search my heart. Remove the beams of pride and blindness from my own eyes. Help me to walk humbly before You and to treat others with grace and mercy. Give me clear vision that comes from a clean heart. Amen.
