The QuaranTune Project: Music From Isolation

These are strange times we're all going through, and one of the many subjects on our minds is how much isolation affects the music community. No doubt all of you are feeling it in some way, whether you consider yourself a player or a listener or something in between. Music is such a powerful medium for human connection, and when we're trying to keep each other safe by keeping our distance, opportunities to make music for and with each other are much harder to find. And yet shared musical experiences can bring people together and lift spirits in truly magical ways during hard times, reminding us that we're all in this together. The idea behind the QuaranTune Project was to make music together, even though many of us are stuck in our homes or thousands of miles apart. We chose a traditional tune (The Water Is Wide) and asked our harp and hammered dulcimer community to send us videos of themselves playing the piece, making sure to play in the same key and at the same tempo. (That's why they're all using headphones!) We received more than 50 contributions, and have compiled them as best we can, and we're feeling pretty inspired by this brave and thoughtful group of musicians. We hope it helps you to feel a little less alone.
