Preserving a Vision: The Refresh of Multiple Visions: A Common Bond

Alexander Girard’s Multiple Visions: A Common Bond at the Museum of International Folk Art is one of the few remaining examples of his designed environments. In 2018, with support from the International Folk Art Foundation and donations made through the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, museum staff and contractors spent a total of 880 man-hours over three months carefully cleaning, repainting, vacuuming, replacing plexiglass, improving lighting, and digitally documenting the collection. Their painstaking efforts ensured the preservation of Girard’s original vision while enhancing audience engagement. To secure the long-term care of this beloved exhibition, the Girard Legacy Endowment Fund was launched in 2022, ensuring future generations can continue to experience its wonder.
