Tired iron, vintage 923 Kenworth , Studebaker US6 and Vietnam era M543 Am Gen wrecker Army truck. The old KW has a seized engine but I did notice that #1 cylinder head has been removed at one time. The engine failure may have resulted from a seized piston or the old Cummins may have swallowed a valve. It's been 35 years since this truck last ran - the engine does have oil in the crankcase, so maybe it's salvageable. This little truck is also much heavier than you'd think. My guess is that the truck was built somewhere around 1966 because of the fiberglass hood, or perhaps that was an update kit installed later, replacing the original gull-wing hood. Maybe some of you KW guys might have a better idea of when this truck was manufactured, please tell us your thoughts in the comments section below. Personally, I've always been a big "Pete guy" my whole life, but to let this truck go to the shredder was unthinkable. Fixed up, this model of truck is extremely aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and a lot of guys are fixing them up and putting them back to work. Maybe some day we'll tear into the engine and see what secrets she holds. The old Cummins NH series were pretty indestructible so maybe we'll eventually be able to get the ol' girl up and around again. If anything, we could probably kill a few mosquitos with the little truck, if nothing else.
