Set in present-day Dublin and directed by Nishaant Singh Bhinder, Abstract Painting is an Irish psychological drama short film. The story follows Jason, whose mundane life feels like an inescapable trap. His obsession with a painting at the National Art Gallery, which he views as a symbol of freedom, begins to consume him. As the story unfolds, we learn about Jason’s past as a thief—a life he gave up for his wife, Kate, after she discovered his secret. Despite his efforts to start fresh, Jason finds himself haunted by the allure of the world he left behind. The couple’s relationship is tested as they try to conceive a child. When Jason discovers that Kate has been secretly taking pills to avoid pregnancy, unable to fully trust him, he spirals back into his old ways, reigniting his inner conflict and threatening their fragile bond.
