From Green Beret to Green Pastures: A Special Forces Operator now runs a small Farm in Tennessee

Jed White and I were on a team together in 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). In this video we talk about what set him on the path to joining the military and being a Green Beret. In many ways, growing up on a farm lead to the military being an almost natural calling, but Jed's initial enlistment as a combat engineer wasn't exactly what he had in mind. However, 20 years quickly passed and he had a range of different experiences on numerous deployments. Prior to retiring, Jed purchased a farm and began working it in his off time, but he realized both that he had served long enough to retire, and that his farm was growing to a scale that wouldn't allow for deployments to take him away from the farm. Visiting Jed was pretty eye-opening for me. I didn't know much at all about farming, so the trip was a whirlwind of learning. Not only does he farm his land, but he has various agreements with other landowners in the area to farm their land, whether it be just to manage mother nature or to split a share of the proceeds. Now fully retired from the Army, Jed is working to expand his farm and own more of the process himself. He's seeking to get more people on board with buying larger portions of beef (1/4, 1/2 or a full cow's worth at a time), something I'm totally on board with (and I'm in line for a 1/2 beef from Jed in the summer).
