At the 12-month follow-up, 68% no longer had PTSD. Based on these results, the FDA granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation to MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD in August 2017. By granting Breakthrough Therapy Designation, the FDA has agreed that this treatment may have a meaningful advantage and greater compliance over available medications for PTSD.
