The 1000 Steps (Kokoda Memorial Walk) was created in the early 1900s and later dedicated to the Australian soldiers who fought along the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea during WWII. It’s one of the most popular hikes near Melbourne, with steep steps and lush fern gullies, giving both a fitness challenge and a scenic walk. 🚗 How to Get Here By Car: Around 50 minutes from Melbourne CBD. Parking is available at Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground. By Public Transport: Take a train on the Belgrave Line to Upper Ferntree Gully Station (about 1 hour from the city), then walk 1.5 km (20 minutes) to the park entrance. 🛠️ Facilities Toilets: Available at Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground (near the start of the 1000 Steps). Café: The 1000 Steps Café is located nearby, offering drinks and snacks.
