THE CUILLIN RIDGE: Sgurr Nan Gillean Summit Camping

Sgurr nan Gillean is a great way to introduce yourself to the epic exposure of the Cuillin Ridge on the Isle of Skye, and it's an amazing viewpoint and mountain in its own right - some even call it the 'Matterhorn of Scotland', although going up via the relatively mild South East Ridge doesn't get quite as committing as the Matterhorn... There are far more serious ways to ascend, one of which is technically scrambling, so I'll solo this later in the year too. I'm getting more familiar with the Cuillin ridge now I've been up onto it a few times, so a full ridge traverse won't be far away, maybe in winter if conditions play ball. Summit camping on the very top of Sgurr nan Gillean isn't viable, but the views are epic if you drop back down a bit and pitch up there for the night. Overall an easy scramble, with one or two awkward moves near the top and a bit of exposure thrown in for good measure. Most of the difficulties can be bypassed however, so it's achievable by most with a head for heights. As an introduction to the Cuillin Ridge you can't beat Sgurr nan Gillean!
