How to Plant Potatoes with The Ghetto Gardener

This is my first year gardening, and I wanted to plant potatoes. I had no idea how to do it when I planted my first crop. My mother-in-law taught me that you buy what's called seed potatoes. They aren't really seeds, but they are potatoes grown for cutting and planting so that you can grow your own. I planted my early crop of red potatoes on March 15th. It was really early for planting in Maryland, but they did really well. I wanted to plant more, so today I went in search of more seed potatoes. It's late in the season for planting potatoes, but I found a Garden Supply Store that had a 50 lb bag. The problem was that many of them were rotten. They gave me the bag for free, but I had to dig through the smelly mess to find some that weren't rotten. These potatoes might not do as well as my first crop. The seeds have long sprouts and are wilting, but I'm going to try it. You cut the seed potatoes so that there's an "eye" or sprout on each piece. Then you plant them so the sprout is pointed up. I didn't show this part in the video, but when I was finished I watered them well. I'll keep you posted with their progress!
