This village is best known for a significant event in its history: a large part of the old town was submerged in 1950 during the construction of a hydroelectric dam. The iconic image of Curon Venosta is the bell tower of a 14th-century Romanesque church that emerges from Lake Resia. This solitary tower is all that remains visible of the submerged village, and it has become a symbol and major tourist attraction. The ancient half-submerged bell-tower in the lake Lago di Resia, which borders Curon Venosta, is featured in the TV series on Netflix.
