Wronged Sports: / @wrongedsports The Touchback: / @thetouchback The career of Lex Luger is a bit of a weird one. Not quite a star. Always around the main event picture. And before Big Show became known for endless heel/face turns, Lex Luger was kind of blazing that trail. The peculiar nature of Luger’s career is exemplified in his three biggest wins, a trio of victories in World Championship matches that may as well have been losses. Beating Barry Windham in a steel cage at the Great American Bash in 1991, knocking off Yokozuna at SummerSlam in 1993 upsetting Hollywood Hulk Hogan and ending his first NWO title run should have been career defining wins. Instead, they felt more like losses. Each unique in its own way but all bad. Which one of Lex Luger’s big wins was the worst, however. It's difficult to say. Luger's win over Windham was marred by a confusing double turn and Ric Flair pulling out of the match. SummerSlam in 1993 offered fans a very confusing moment and led to Luge being lost in the wilderness for a bit. Lex Luger winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship on a 1997 episode of Nitro was an amazing moment. But it was all for naught when the Total Package dropped the belt back to Hollywood Hulk Hogan five days later. Don't forget to subscribe to Special Guest Referee for more wrestling content.
