Link's Journal: Day 1 I thought I had died after that storm. Everything had gone white when the lightning hit my ship and I kept hearing a very gentle voice asking me to wake up. When I opened my eyes, I thought I saw Zelda...but it wasn't her. Her name is Marin, and she reassured me that I am still alive. I asked if I was back in Hyrule, but Marin didn't know what Hyrule even was. It was very strange. Marin told me that I washed up on Koholint Island. Marin found me on the beach and took me to her home. She lives here with her father, Tarin. Tarin found my shield. I asked if he saw a sword, but he didn't. I knew it couldn't be too far from where I washed up. Marin wanted me to stay longer to recover, but I had to go find my sword. I was more determined to find it after Marin insisted I stay due to the monsters in the area. Monsters weren't a problem for me. After what I've seen in the Dark World, they can't be that bad. I was right. While all I had to defend myself was a shield, I was able to get past the monsters quickly (although one of the villagers did have to explain to me that the giant black beast called BowWow was not one of the scary monsters in the wild). Marin had pointed me in the direction of the beach. Sure enough, I found my sword. A mysterious owl flew by. He told me that the monsters were getting restless because I had come to wake the Wind Fish. I asked the owl what the Wind Fish is, but all he said after that was for me to go to the Mysterious Woods up north and look for a special key. He flew away after that. Well, with my sword in hand, I went back to the village to plan out how to get materials and supplies. I also needed a boat back to Hyrule. Marin wasn't much help. While Mabe Village was part of the island, no one had ever left. This place is full of monsters, why would anyone want to stay? I asked Marin about the Wind Fish and she said that the Wind Fish is the island deity that sleeps inside the giant egg atop Mt. Tamaranch. It was easy to see the egg from here. According to local legend, the Wind Fish has been waiting for someone to wake him up. No one knows what will happen when he wakes up. Tarin also went to the Mysterious Woods shortly after I went to the beach. Marin said he likes to go there to pick mushrooms. Marin took the time to ask me about my own adventures and about Hyrule. I didn't want to stay too long, but I did tell her about my home. I didn't feel ready to tell her about my trip to the Dark World...and what led to that. Tarin was taking a long time to return. I took that time to travel into the Mysterious Woods. The owl appeared as soon as I entered. The owl told me that I can only return home if the Wind Fish wakes. To wake him, I have to find the eight Instruments of the Sirens hidden in dungeons throughout the world. Within the woods is the key to one of the dungeons, the Tail Cave. The owl flew away after that. I'm not sure the owl knows what he's talking about. I'm sure I could just leave the island through a boat or a raft if I can't find one. Still, I was already in the Mysterious Woods, I might as well see what these strange instruments are. I found a mushroom in the woods and took it to a nearby witch named Syrup. She made it into a bag of Magic Powder. This will come in handy. Eventually, I found Tarin...who had been turned into a raccoon. I managed to turn him back to normal with the magic powder. I asked Tarin where the Tail Cave is and he told me it was north of the beach, but south of the village. Tarin left for home. He knew the way. Before I left the woods, I noticed something sparkle in the bushes. It was a strange key. The owl appeared again and told me that was the key to the Tail Cave. He flew away before I could ask him any more questions. I would like to start preparing to head home, but I am curious about what's inside the Tail Cave. I'll set out to find it tomorrow. I'm sure Marin and Tarin will let me stay another night.
