This is video #186 in my playthrough of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition on the PlayStation 4. I am playing the game vanilla. This game has been rated M for Mature by the ESRB. He explored the first two stages of Kolbjorn Barrow and then funded Ralis Sedarys's third dig. Now, he will talk to Ralis and then explore the third stage of the barrow. After resuming, Davilas talks to Ralis Sedarys at the camp outside Kolbjorn Barrow. Naturally, the third stage of the excavation has disturbed even more Draugr. Davilas must clear the latest batch of Draugr from the barrow. Davilas heads into Kolbjorn Barrow. There are plenty of Draugr to find here. In the northwestern passages, he can reveal a room containing Ahzidal's Gauntlets of Warding. Once all the Draugr are cleared out, Davilas is prompted to report to Ralis. Eventually, Davilas finds a room with a grid of pressure plates. He must step on each pressure plate in a timely manner. This opens up a side room where he can find Ahzidal's Ring of Arcana. There are also things to find underwater. Eventually, Davilas heads outside and reports to Ralis. Ralis needs one last investment to finish the excavation: 5,000 gold. Davilas fast-travels back to Raven Rock to wait for Ralis's next message. After a few days, the Courier arrives and delivers the "Letter from Ralis Sedarys 4". The message is terse but clear. Of course, before leaving town, Davilas has yet another dragon to take care of. Once the dragon is defeated, Davilas fast-travels back to Kolbjorn Barrow. He finds no one alive, but he does find volumes 19 - 23 of "The Journal of Ralis Sedarys". They chronicle a descent into madness. To continue the quest, Davilas eventually reads "The Journal of Ralis Sedarys - Volume 23". Sounds like Ralis is being manipulated by Ahzidal. After reading this, Davilas must locate Ralis. Davilas enters Kolbjorn Barrow to explore the most recent excavation. At the bottom of the shaft beyond the first room, he finds an unearthed Word Wall, where he learns Strike, the last word of Cyclone. Northwest of the room with the floor tile puzzle, Davilas finds a door to a room with Draugr in chairs. Now, this path may not appear clear, due to a glitch, but it is; just walk through the apparent cave-in. Afterwards, Davilas can set the two pillars to fish and pull the lever to unveil a room containing Ahzidal's Armor of Retribution. Then, to open the path leading down, Davilas can set the two pillars to eagles and pull the lever again. Downstairs, after clearing out some Draugr, Davilas can set the two pillars to snakes and pull the chain to open a door. Beyond, he can find Ahzidal's Helm of Vision. Look out for the traps in this room. Finally, Davilas finds Ralis in Ahzidal's crypt. Ahzidal rises, and Davilas must defeat him, along with his horde of Draugr. Ahzidal, a dragon priest, cloaks himself with fire and uses fire-elemental magic, so fire resistance is a plus. It helps if you can take him down with magic or archery at a distance. After Ahzidal is dead for good, Davilas can claim the Ahzidal mask, which increases fire resistance by 50% and increases fire spell damage by 25%. Then, Davilas talks to Ralis. I conclude that Ahzidal has been controlling him. There are two options: to believe him or to punishment. Davilas chooses to let him go. In this event, Ralis becomes available as a follower. "Unearthed" complete! An exit tunnel begins at a sarcophagus. Along this tunel, Davilas finds the "Black Book: Filament and Filigree". He reads it and arrives in another pocket of Apocrypha. This starts the quest "Black Book: Filament and Filigree". Davilas must locate this book's hidden knowledge. "Filament and Filigree" is similar to "The Sallow Regent" in that the player takes damage in the darkened sections. Fortunately, this area is very short. You can avoid taking damage from the darkness by using the Candlelight spell or a Torch. There are Lurkers and Seekers here, naturally. Be careful not to step off the edge of the walkway. At the end, Davilas finds the corresponding Black Book. "Black Book: Filament and Filigree" complete! The player can learn one of three powers: "Secret of Strength", "Secret of Arcana", or "Secret of Protection". Davilas chooses "Secret of Protection", which halves the damage he will take for 30 seconds. This is the last Black Book in Davilas's game. The description is continued in the comments.
