Vatnajökull's offshot to the south is called Öræfajökull (seen with a shallow glacier crater to the front) and houses the highest peak of Iceland - Hvannadalsnjukur. There had been numerous earthquakes at Öræfajökull in recent times and a hollow had been formed on the top of that glacial crater. Öræfajökull erupted last time in the 13th century and had been the most devastating eruption in terms of casualites since the settlement of Iceland. Ever since the area around this glacial volcano had been called Öræfa - Wasteland, and so the glacier had been renamed after it. Though the original name of it might had been different. The closest village is called Hof. The glacial lagoon seen in the beginning of the video is called Fjallsarlon and is accessible by road There is a parking, hotel and restaurant of the same name by that lagoon.
