The forgotten graves of Cromford Church

A site survey. Cromford Church, dedicated to St Mary, is located in the town of Cromford, Derbyshire, England. It sits next to Cromford Bridge on the banks of the River Derwent. The current church is a relatively new construction, built between 1792 and 1797 AD by Thomas Gardner. Though the church was built to replace an ancient church which sat upon the same site. This upload is to serve posterity, by making a record of the few existing Gravestones within its Graveyard. Once the Graveyard was filled with Gravestones, but over the course of time and exposure to the elements, most of the Gravestones have been removed. There are very few Gravestones left and very soon they will be gone forever. This is the same story with Gravestones across the entire country. We are in danger of losing this very important part of our historic culture, future generations will be faced with empty Graveyards. Within the next 25 - 30 years, this legacy which affords us a real and tangible link with the past, will be gone. And once gone they will be gone forever. Hence this upload is to stand as a snapshot, frozen in time - for future generations to witness their lost past.
