Valmuz is an international band characterized by its experimental and eclectic approach to jazz, fusing the genre with a wide variety of seemingly contradictory styles, creating an innovative musical proposition. The group is composed of four talented musicians: Peter Connolly (Ireland, guitarist and vocalist), Chris Attwell (UK, bass), Víctor Jiménez (Spain, alto sax), and Joshua Wheatley (UK, drums). Together, they create a blend of sounds that range from organic to electric, always maintaining a strong sense of rhythm and improvisation. Valmuz stands out for its ability to surprise listeners with music that is both accessible and complex, an experience that spans genres like funk, heavy metal, psychedelia, and Latin rhythms, while keeping the roots of swing and traditional jazz. Their kaleidoscopic approach to music allows each band member to develop their own instrumental personality, maintaining fluid communication between the rhythmic base and melodic lines. The guitar often takes on a dual role, linking intimate passages with bursts of energy that captivate the audience. Winners of the Grand Prize at the Johnny Raducannu Jazz Festival in Romania in 2019, Valmuz has proven its ability to stand out on the international jazz scene. Their first album generated great anticipation, and they have now completed the recording of their second album, to be released in 2020. This new work reflects the band’s constant evolution, as they continue to explore the endless possibilities of contemporary jazz. Valmuz’s dynamism is evident in their live performances, where the band’s energy fluctuates between moments of great intensity and subtle melodic passages. The interaction between Víctor Jiménez’s alto sax and Peter Connolly’s voice, along with the powerful rhythm section of Chris Attwell and Joshua Wheatley, creates an immersive sound experience that invites the listener to explore different textures and rhythms. The band not only focuses on improvisation and creating unexpected sounds, but also leaves room for the inclusion of other musicians, always keeping the possibility of evolving and expanding their musical proposal.
