Enhance Your Abstract Painting with Cardboard

Watch as I share with you an exciting abstract painting tutorial! In this video, I'll be demonstrating how to create captivating artwork on a cradled wood panel (https://amzn.to/3p3vF9f) using acrylic paints and adding a touch of texture and interest with cardboard. By incorporating this unique element, you can enhance the overall look of the painting and create a visually stunning piece. –Painting Prompts– ➡️ 50 Abstract Warm-Up Painting Prompts - https://etsy.me/49utFsk To begin, I start by preparing my materials. I first tone the gessoed wood panel with the acrylic paint left over from a previous painting. Then I gather acrylic paints in Titanium white, Prussian blue, Light olive green, light magenta, bright aqua green, and some cardboard. These colors will add depth and vibrancy to our abstract composition. Once the materials are ready, I dive into the creative process. I apply the acrylic paints onto the wood panel, using a combination of brushstrokes, and even palette knife application to achieve various textures. As the colors blend and interact, the artwork takes shape, each layer adding depth and complexity. Now, it's time to introduce the cardboard. I demonstrate how to remove the top layer of the cardboard, exposing the ribbed areas beneath. This technique adds an additional layer of texture and creates a fascinating contrast within the artwork. I strategically place the piece of cardboard onto the panel, carefully adhering them to create interesting patterns and textures. This step not only adds a three-dimensional element to the painting but also serves to enhance the overall visual impact. Finally, I reveal two different versions of the painting. You'll see how the use of cardboard and the incorporation of texture and acrylic paint can dramatically transform the composition, offering distinct visual experiences. I hope this abstract painting tutorial inspires you to experiment with texture, enhance your artwork, and explore the endless possibilities of acrylic paints.
