Day 2 is a walk of about 24km, mostly downhill. The Ruta de la Piedra y del Agua (Route of Stone and Water) forms the first part of the day’s walk, following the Río Armenteira as it descends about 290 metres. I walked with the river on my right along the PR-G 170 trail. The route gets its name from the rocky river path and the numerous disused water mills (muíños) that line this former route of industry—many of them with mill stones still inside the dilapidated ruins. The second section is from Barrantes and follows the Río Umia. Here the river is more expansive and less spectacular, but the other side of the path is lined with grape vines and the occasional field of maise. The final part of the day’s walk meanders through small towns and part bodegas on the way to Vilanova de Arousa—a pleasant portside town on the banks of the Arousa estuary.
