(Aug. 15) 2007 ---------------------------------------- [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] Rescuers are digging through muddy wreckage in northwest Iraq as they search for victims of four bombings. It's the deadliest attack since the war began. The U-S military says the attack is consistent with al-Qaida activity in Iraq. SOT Bergner "They have made this spectacular attacks, these large scale attacks on innocent civilians a hallmark of their terrorism" The suicide trucks bombers struck nearly simultaneously on Tuesday, causing buildings to crumble and trapping people in the rubble. The victims are Yazidis, a small Kurdish sect that has been targeted by Muslim extremists. The attack occurred about 75 miles west of Mosul, Iraq's third-largest city. U-S officials say extremists are attempting to regroup across northern Iraq after being driven from strongholds in and around Baghdad. The White House condemned the attack.
