A powerful, collective call for a cessation of hostilities between forces aligned with the parties to the peace deal was issued by regional and international partners at a forum to address the deteriorating political and security situation in #SouthSudan. The escalation in military confrontations and political schism caused by the charging and trial of First Vice President, Riek Machar were top of the agenda at an extraordinary plenary held by the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, which is charged with overseeing peace deal implementation. "The challenges facing the peace agreement are man-made, fundamentally political, and only resolvable through inclusive dialogue," said the Officer in Charge, Special Representative of the #UnitedNations Secretary-General, Anita Kiki Gbeho, in her remarks.
