LA ASOCIACIÓN DE PRODUCTORES DE CIGARROS DE REPÚBLICA DOMINICANA CELEBRA SU TREINTA ANIVERSARIO A un mes de declarar al tabaco y los cigarros como Patrimonio Cultural de República Dominicana, fue celebrado el 30 aniversario de la Asociación de Productores de Cigarros de la República Dominicana (PROCIGAR), con un Almuerzo-Conferencia, donde el presidente Luis Abinader Corona actuó como orador invitado. “Hoy República Dominicana logra exportar una cifra histórica de más de 1,200 millones de dólares en tabaco y cigarros, expresaba con alegría Hendrik Kelner Casals, el presidente de PROCIGAR, porque hace 30 años el país exportaba 80 millones de dólares y ha superado esa cifra 15 veces”. Respecto al producto de mayor permanencia en la historia del país, Kelner aseguró que la consolidación del sector se ha logrado gracias al compromiso de cada integrante de PROCIGAR con la cultura, la tradición, así como la estabilidad socioeconómica de la nación y el interés sin precedentes del Presidente, “quien luego de un mes de iniciado su Gobierno, tuvo la iniciativa de presentar el Plan Estratégico de la Industria Tabacalera”. Los integrantes de PROCIGAR aprovecharon para reconocer al presidente Luis Abinader, por su apoyo a la industria tabacalera a través del Plan Estratégico de la Industria Tabacalera, así como por impulsar la declaratoria del tabaco y el cigarro como Patrimonio Cultural del País. Al día de hoy, República Dominicana se caracteriza por tener los mejores fabricantes de cigarros premium, ostentando el liderazgo mundial en la producción de cigarros mecanizados, ocupando una posición de liderazgo en Estados Unidos y expandiéndose en Europa y Asia. “Estamos presentes en más de 140 países alrededor del mundo, con un producto que lleva claramente el mensaje, -Hecho en República Dominicana-”, dijo Hendrik Kelner. PROCIGAR fue fundada en 1992 con la intención de mejorar la calidad de sus productos y elevar el nombre del país como productor de cigarros premium a niveles nunca antes conocidos. Representa el 90% de las exportaciones de tabaco de República Dominicana, así como una cifra similar frente a más de 125 mil empleos en este sector. Su objetivo ha sido defender, proteger y difundir el buen nombre de nuestra tierra tabacalera por excelencia, productora y exportadora de los mejores cigarros premium del mundo. PROCIGAR CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF COMMITMENT TO THE TOBACCO INDUSTRY One month after declaring tobacco and cigars as Cultural Heritage of the country, the Association of Dominican Cigar Manufacturers (PROCIGAR), celebrated its 30th anniversary with a Lunch-Conference where President Luis Abinader Corona served as guest speaker. “Today, the Dominican Republic manages to export a historical number of more than 1,200 million dollars in tobacco and cigars, the president of PROCIGAR, Hendrik Kelner Casals, expressed his joy because 30 years ago the country exported 80 million dollars and it has already exceeded that number 15 times”.
