Old Pigeon House Power Station at Poolbeg

The old Pigeon House generating station, where electricity was first generated in 1903. The Pigeon House was previously a military barracks. It was used for power generation until it was decommissioned in 1976. The site is now totally off limits as the roof is beginning to collapse. I drove down one day just to see if I could have a peek and luckily one of the gates was left open. I wandered in and walked about the place in amazement. Walking into the main room/cathedral of steel and red brick with nothing but the sound of a bird fluttering in the rafters was an incredible feeling. So much history of Dublin and the many that had lived and probably died there throughout the 1900s.
