I’ve been road cycling since 2019, almost 99.9% road. As of November 2025, I currently ride a 2022 BMC Teammachine SLR01. I wanted an affordable gravel bike that offered great value for the money, and after watching a few reviews, I decided to pull the trigger on the Primos Damos gravel bike. I purchased this bike with my own money. I’d recommend having your local shop assemble it if you can afford it, but if you have advanced mechanical skills, you’ll be fine building it yourself. I rode the bike the day after I built it. The shifting was off, I tried to adjust it myself but didn’t really know what I was doing. I stopped by a shop along the White Oak Trail; the mechanic worked on it, and it shifted much better but still struggled a bit in some gears. He suspected the cable might need replacing and told me to ride it for now and bring it back if the issue continued. Here’s what was done: Mechanic 1: -Shortened the chain by a few links (it was too long) -Straightened the derailleur hanger (it was slightly bent) After that, shifting wasn’t perfect but was much better than out of the box. The next day, I took it to a different mechanic. Mechanic 2: -Set it up tubeless — 100% recommended! It rides much smoother and gives you the benefit of lower pressure and puncture protection. -Greased all the bearings — basically took the bike apart. When I built it, the steering felt a bit tight; afterward, it was much smoother. -Rerouted the cables — shifting is now spot-on. -Cut two spacers worth from the steerer tube — it was too high for me. It’s still a little taller than my road bike, but that’s probably better for gravel control. Now I just need to get more miles on it, but my first impressions are great. It rides smooth! Some reviewers mentioned the brakes being weak. I’m 150 lbs, and I think they work fine. I even tested some hard stops, and they held up well. After my first 21-mile ride, my hands did feel a bit fatigued from breaking, you do have to apply more force than with hydraulic brakes, but overall, I’m not concerned. Tubeless setup made a huge difference, the rolling resistance felt noticeably improved, and the ride was smoother. I’ll be testing it on a full gravel ride soon, but so far, I’m really happy with this bike. Total cost: Bike (shipped, including tax): $949 Mechanic fees: $250 Total: $1,199 I already had clipless pedals from my MTB (which I’ll be selling). I did buy bottle cages and a Wahoo/light mount, but I don’t plan on upgrading anything else soon. I don’t race, this setup is perfect for me. I emailed Primos about the first mechanic work and they refunded me the money, even though I told them they did not have to.
