The Australian Bizarre Beauty We Forgot About! The Purvis Eureka, a car so different it's hard to believe it was real. This video dives into the story of this forgotten Australian beauty that turned heads and captured imaginations. Our tale begins in 1971 when an Australian businessman named Alan Purvis went to the UK and discovered a DIY car called the Nova. Seeing potential in this idea, he brought it back to Australia and gave it a new identity. He named it the Purvis Eureka after an important event in Australian history, the Eureka Stockade. This wasn't just a new car; it was a revolution on wheels! The Purvis Eureka made its big debut at the 1974 Melbourne International Motor Show, and boy, did it make a splash! Its sleek, wedge-shaped body was cool, but the real showstopper was its roof. Instead of regular doors, the whole top section opened forward, making it look like a spaceship. It was made of lightweight fiberglass, which meant it could go fast even with a small engine. What made the Eureka really special was that it was a kit car. This means people could buy the parts and build it themselves. It used the base of a Volkswagen Beetle, which was easy to find and known for being reliable. This made the Eureka an affordable option for sports car fans who liked to work with their hands. Over the years, the Purvis Eureka kept getting better. They made it roomier, added more gauges to the dashboard, and even created a version where you could open the roof with just a push of a button. Some owners even put in more powerful engines to make their Eurekas super fast! The Purvis Eureka was built from 1974 to 1991, with 683 cars made in total. While that might not seem like a lot compared to regular cars, it's pretty impressive for a special kit car. Today, seeing a Purvis Eureka on the road is rare, which makes them even cooler. ____ We do not own the footages/images compiled in this video.
