A 50 km perimeter swim of Whatshan Lake, completed over three summers. This video documents the completion of a full perimeter swim around Whatshan Lake in British Columbia. The total distance is approximately 50 km (31 miles), completed over 19 individual swims across three summers. The video opens with the final west-side leg, marking completion of the full circuit, then flashes back to earlier swims, including the east side and intermediate sections along the route. Google Earth Studio flyovers are used to transition to and from the on-water footage, showing where swims begin and end around the lake and providing geographic context for the overall route. Whatshan Lake is located in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, running parallel to Arrow Lake near Highway 6 and the Needles Ferry. The lake is clear, relatively warm in summer, and divided into three main sections by narrows, with several islands along the perimeter. The swims were done at a recreational pace, averaging about 1.5 km per hour, using a simple support setup (team of one) and focusing on steady, repeatable progress rather than speed. As far as I know, this is the first complete perimeter swim of Whatshan Lake.
