As the UK experiences the worst period of unemployment for decades, the chancellor announced schemes to keep people in work, boost skills and tackle youth unemployment. Mr Sunak also introduced measures to encourage spending, as early evidence suggests many people remain nervous about visiting food and hospitality venues. He said: “We will not be defined by this crisis, but by our response to it", adding that “it is a plan to turn our national recovery into millions of stories of personal renewal."
