The Town at the Northern End of Lake Como | Morning Trip to Colico, Italy

Today we'll be going on a winter morning trip to Colico, a very colorful and charming town in northern Italy! It's located on the far north of Lake Como, along the shores not far from the northernmost tip of the lake. Very clearly visible from this area are the imposing Alps, off in the distance, and also Mt. Legnone, the mountain that towers over Colico and on the lower slope of which the entire town is built. At this time of the year most of the peaks are covered in snow, making the perfect background for a cozy winter walk! During wintertime the town is quiet and laid back, and overall a great spot where to relax and enjoy an incredibly peaceful day on the lake. There are still plenty of people walking around and going on with their day though, unlike many other places on the lake which feel empty during the off season. The reason for that is simple: Colico actually has a population of over 8000 people, which is quite a lot considering the usual standards of Lake Como as whole! Like many other towns and villages located on the far north of Lake Como, Colico has some very characteristic elements to discover: the almost ever present wind currents, the many small beaches dotted along the shore, the quaint camping grounds, and the incredibly picturesque streets and lakefront of the town center. On top of all of that Colico can also be considered the main hub of this far off section of the lake, often making it bustling with people walking and cycling around, sunbathing, swimming, canoeing and windsurfing. Watersports are really big all over the northern lake, and Colico is a particularly popular location where to practice them! (Well, usually not in winter though!) What are we waiting for?
