Kirk Hearder leads our Litany of Morning Prayer worship on this Transfiguration Sunday, February 15, 2026, with Music Director Zacharia Dekker, and Lay Assistant and Intercessor Jim Hodder. The lessons are read by Hugh Thompson (The Book of Exodus 24:12-18) and Kamma Thompson (The 2nd Letter of Peter 1:16-21). The Gospel is from Matthew (17:1-9). Psalm 2 is said responsively, while the congregation responds with, "God has exalted his anointed", from the George Black setting. Our Processional Hymn this Sunday is 'Precious Lord, Take My Hand' (Common Praise #509). This was Martin Luther King Jr.'s favourite song, and he often invited gospel singer Mahalia Jackson to sing it at civil rights rallies to inspire crowds. At his request she sang it at his funeral in April 1968. King's last words before his assassination was a request for musician Ben Branch to play it at a service he was due to attend that night. King's exact last words were, "Ben, make sure you play 'Take My Hand, Precious Lord' in the meeting tonight. The Gradual Hymn is 'Be Thou My Vision' (#505), with three verses sung before the Gospel, and the final verse after. The Offertory Hymn is 'Tis Good, Lord, to Be Here' (#167), and, as our Recessional, 'Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee' (#425). All are invited to the hall for refreshments and conversation following Zach's postlude. St. John's, East Orangeville is located in Caledon, Ontario Canada, and is a parish within the Anglican Diocese of Toronto. It is a ground-level fully accessible church and hall.
