In this video, I compare the Garmin Forerunner 955’s MIP display to the new Forerunner 970’s AMOLED screen and talk about what it’s actually like to make the switch. This isn’t just a feature rundown. It’s about the real-world experience of moving from Garmin’s classic MIP displays to their newer AMOLED models. I’ve always preferred MIP for its clarity and battery life, but with Garmin shifting toward AMOLED, I wanted to see how it performs day to day. I also compare the 955’s MIP screen to the Fenix 8 (47 mm Solar MIP) and Tactix 8 (51 mm Solar MIP), which both appeared noticeably darker and lower in contrast. That difference ultimately pushed me toward the 970’s AMOLED display. If you’re trying to decide between the 955, 970, or one of the new Fenix or Tactix models, this video covers how each display technology feels in actual use, from sunlight visibility to always-on performance and overall usability.
