Overview Rob Sabourin has been using a multitude of different scripting languages to support testing efforts since the 1970s. Rob will share the practical method he uses to learn, and adapt to, new and emerging scripting languages, technologies, and environments. Rob suggests prospective scripters master some fundamental computing models, and basic programming concepts before jumping into learning a scripting language. It is important to understand the concept of variables, which are things that change, influence, or influenced, the program. How variables are represented in computer memory varies with different scripting languages. The basic variable types include representing text, whole and fractional numbers, and logical conditions. Learning a new scripting language involves understanding: Input Output error reporting data streams files network protocols. decision making looping concepts Rob starts scripting by creating simple visual models such as flow charts, control flow diagrams, and state models. Rob will share the use of CSV format input and output files. Rob uses some simple example programs to help learn the basics of new scripting languages. He will describe how libraries should be identified to help control or manipulate software under test. The Webinar concludes with a walk-through of a generic keyword-driven test automation script implemented in a few different languages.
