Happy Hobby Days and Keep 'em Running! See you soon! ---------------------- Welcome to my new green allotment garden summer basher! This April, as my family and I opened up our city allotment hut and garden for the coming season I thought it could need a new permanent resident. The Tamiya Wild Dagger is perfect for this small garden. Slow, high torque, 4WD and an obvious contender for my little ramp I keep there. Looking forward running and jumping it together with my son this summer at our small lot. Even though I just posted a video of my entire Tamiya collection, the Tamiya Wild Dagger is a new second hand addition to my small collection of Tamiya Monster Trucks. And what a pleasure it has been to inspect and run the first WR-01 of them all. It might not be in perfect condition and I would have prefered a box art paint job. But still, I got it for a good price locally and after all, the colour choice is not that bad. This Wild Dagger still have it's two original silver cans, the original Tamiya MSC for two motors and an old Hitec servo and radio system. In the video I'm running it on either 6S NiMH (street footage) or 2S LiPo (garden footage). As I already have some future plans for my two WT-01's I do not plan any modifications for this original WR-01. Maybe a bit of trimming of those uncut body mounts and maybe a clean up after the summer. That's all. This is a 1999 Runner! The WR/WT-01 chassis means a great deal to me, as this chassis was my first Tamiya. In the 1980s I was running with my Nikkos and Taiyos and had never heard of Tamiya. It is also one the few Tamiyas that never has broken down on me. Maybe because of the low gearing and low speed (it's hard to break anything that moves at maximum 20 km/h) but maybe also because of the durable design. For those not familiar with the WR-01 and WT-01 history here follows a short overview: The Wild Dagger was the first model Tamiya released based on the WR-01 chassis. It is a an affordable monocoque chassis with short frictions springs and a 4WD with two motors. The WR-01 was used in four models and is now discontinued: The Tamiya Wild Dagger (58231) from 1999 The Tamiya Twin Detonator (58309) from 2003 The Tamiya Double Blaze (58366) from 2006 The Tamiya Dualhunter (58396) from 2007 In late 2003 Tamiya introduced the WT-01 which essentially is a WR-01 with a removed front gear box, making it an even more affordable 2WD Monster Truck. In short, it can give you the feeling of driving an old 1980s Tamiya Monster Truck, without the fear of breaking down any moment. Most of the WT-01s was indeed inspired by the 1980s Monster Trucks: The Tamiya Blackfoot Xtreme (58312) from 2003 The Tamiya Blackfoot III (58498) from 2011 The Tamiya Mud Blaster II (58514) from 2011 The Tamiya Bush Devil II (58523) from 2012 The Tamiya Volkswagen Amarok (58603) from 2015 Tamiya also released a fair number of XB (Expert Built/Ready to run) models based on the WT-01 chassis. Among them are: The Tamiya Mighty Bull XB Pro (57727) The Tamiya Over Lander XB Pro (57729) The Tamiya Blackfoot III XB Pro (57825) At the moment of writing it seems that Tamiya has discontinued the production of the WT-01's, except maybe for the latest addition, the Amarok from 2015. The WR-01's has been dissapearing from stock for many years now and now it seems the WT-01's are doing the same. A great line of Monster Trucks are coming to an end. Well, for my part, I will continue running my WT-01 Mighty Bull, WT-01 Blackfoot III and of course ... my newly aquired green WR-01 Wild Dagger.
