Calstock - A Village, A Viaduct & A Vintage Home (Tamar Valley Line) - 21st to 23rd June 2024

Welcome to this video: Calstock - A Village, A Viaduct & A Vintage Home. Recorded between 21st & 23rd June 2024. Running Time 17 minutes & 9 seconds. The village of Calstock lies alongside the River Tamar within an area of Cornwall that is often neglected in favour of more popular Cornish destinations such as St Ives and Newquay. It was a destination that I visited frequently whilst living, first of all in Plymouth, and then over on the Rame Peninsula near Torpoint for around 35 years. My lifelong interest in railways began on the Tamar Valley Line back in the mid to late 1960’s and I remember to this day how exciting it was to cross the magnificent railway viaduct along with the spectacular views that it afforded along the River Tamar to Cotehele. I would later go on to work for The National Trust for 20 years and it was my early visits to the Cotehele estate that caught my attention for the important work that this organisation does in looking after so many places of natural beauty and historic importance. My railway holiday to Devon and Cornwall in 2024 provided me with the opportunity to revisit so many of the places that I remembered from years gone by including the remarkable and unspoilt Tamar Valley. In this video I have retraced my steps to Calstock with its majestic railway viaduct along with the nearby Estate at Cotehele. It brought back enough memories to last a lifetime. Thank you for watching the video which I hope you will enjoy.
