Changing the existing law, The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2015 -- or the Land Acquisition Ordinance, promulgated by the President recently, states that the govt. can acquire land if it is for defence, rural infrastructure, affordable housing, industrial corridors set up by the government and infrastructure projects. For such acquisition, no consent from landowning population will be required It also replaces the word private companies for ‘private entities’. A private entity is defined as any entity other than a government entity. In this edition of Law of the Land we discuss about the various facets of this ordinance. Anchor: Amritanshu Rai
