After stopping at a local marina to grab some live shrimp, we make a short run offshore and start dropping baits on some reef structure where the bite starts heating up. From sheepshead and mangrove snapper to a powerful gag grouper on light tackle, you truly never know what’s coming up next when fishing these reefs. But fishing is only half the story here. One of the best parts about Anna Maria Island is how easy it is to turn a fishing trip into a full day adventure. After a few hours on the water we head back to the island, grab lunch at one of our favorite waterfront restaurants, and then explore the island the best way possible — cruising around on a golf cart checking out beaches, coffee spots, and the old Florida charm that makes this place so unique. From pier fishing and white sand beaches to great food and local shops, this island has something for everyone. This is what island life looks like on the west coast of Florida — fishing at sunrise, lunch on the water, and exploring paradise before the day is over.
