Rising tensions in the Middle East have triggered concerns about global energy supplies. One of the biggest risks is the Strait of Hormuz, through which a major portion of the world’s crude oil trade passes. For India, the stakes are high. The country consumes around 5.5 million barrels of crude oil every day. But according to the latest government update, India’s oil supply remains secure. Key reasons include: • Diversified crude imports from 40 different countries • Nearly 70% of imports now arriving through routes outside Hormuz • Additional crude cargoes already en route to India • Refineries operating at high capacity India’s energy mix also includes natural gas production of around 97.5 million cubic metres per day, helping stabilize supply during disruptions. Meanwhile, domestic PNG, CNG and LPG supply chains have been protected, with LPG production increased to maintain household cylinder availability. In short, while global tensions remain high, India’s fuel supply system currently remains stable and prepared for shocks.
