Niagara Falls Ice Bridge DISASTER | TRUE STORY Subscribe If You Dare @disasterstories In the international border between Canada and North America lies the world famous Niagara Falls, a group of 3 spectacular waterfalls that is visited annually by over 8 million people. These falls are a force of nature, breathtaking in beauty and terrifying in power. The Horseshoe waterfall alone, the biggest of the 3 falls which sits between the province of Ontario and the state of New York, has the most powerful flow rate in all of North America’s cataracts, peaking at 230,000 cubic feet of water per second. During winter, the flow rate slows down. The cold temperature freezes the water, forming mists of snow in the air and solid glaciers in the river. White and sparkly as far as the eye can see, Niagara Falls becomes a literal winter wonderland. These days, visitors can appreciate this enchanting scenery from dry land where they are fenced in for safety. But in the 80's and 90’s, the tourists could go down the river and take a leisure walk in the ice. This was considered a very safe practice back then. At least, until the Ice Bridge Disaster of February 4, 1912 when such practice was banned after the glaciers disintegrated without warning, breaking off from the shore, rushing towards the whirling rapids and taking down with it the lives of the Falls’ visitors. #documentary #truestories #history Welcome to the world of caving.
