Dr Angeli Andrea Cocos-Alcantara speaks to ecancer about a study that she conducted at her institute in the Philippines on the 'Health-related quality of life and patient satisfaction of Filipinos after breast conservation surgery and intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT)'. She explains that the study found, based on a questionnaire, that patients who had IORT were likely to have better quality of life as compared to those who had external beam radiotherapy. However those that had both modalities had the worst scores of all and the lowest rating of quality of life. Dr Cocos-Alcantara then discusses how IORT is used at her institute and which breast cancer patients are likely to be available for consideration. She concludes by sharing that even though cost is a factor with the use of IORT in the Philippines, it's use is still very important. ecancer's filming has been kindly supported by Zeiss. ecancer is editorially independent and there is no influence over content.
