Nestled in the heart of Delhi, Gole Market is known for its iconic food spots, this area offers a treasure trove of culinary delights that cater to every palate. From savory indulgences to sweet treats, we set out on a food walk to explore some of the best this historic neighborhood has to offer. Here’s a rundown of our flavorful journey. Our first stop was Odeon Sweets, a beloved destination for hearty North Indian snacks and sweets. We savored their paneer-stuffed bhature paired with flavorful chole, made with in-house spices. The combination was rich and satisfying. Their kulhad lassi and moong dal halwa stole the show, with the halwa being our personal favorite—perfectly textured and loaded with ghee. Next, we visited Gupta Restaurant, another popular spot in Gole Market, famous for its wholesome thalis and catering services. We tried the laccha paratha thali, which included rice, dal makhni, shahi paneer, raita, and a sweet dish. The curries were exceptionally delicious, making this thali a comforting and satisfying meal. Bangla Sweet House was our third stop. A haven for those with a sweet tooth, they boast an extensive range of sweets and baked goods. On the recommendation of the owner, we tried their anarkali, a dessert similar to saffron-flavored rasmalai but elevated with pomegranate arils and dry fruits that added a luscious burst of flavor. We also indulged in their desighee ke ladoo, which were soft, rich, and melted in the mouth. For a non-vegetarian twist, we stopped by a small yet flavorful joint called Lazeezganj. We sampled their chicken biryani and butter chicken. While the biryani leaned more towards a pulao in style, the butter chicken stood out with its smoky notes and perfectly balanced flavors. Stumbling upon Naveen Tea House was a delightful surprise. This old-world tea shop, complete with simple chairs and tables, offers a pocket-friendly menu perfect for unwinding with friends after a busy day. A steaming cup of tea here felt like a warm hug amidst the bustling market. Our next stop was Kaleva Sweets, one of Delhi’s most renowned sweet shops. Though they have multiple branches, this Gole Market outlet is the oldest and most iconic. Known for their quirky sweet names, we tried baked rabri, ilu ilu, and anarkali. Each dessert brought something unique to the table, with the baked rabri standing out for its rich and creamy flavor. We ended our food walk at Creme N Crisp, the highlight of the tour. Their baklava ice cream was a decadent treat, combining the richness of baklava with the coolness of ice cream. We also loved their fresh fruit popsicles, which were light, refreshing, and a perfect way to wrap up the food-filled day. This culinary journey through Gole Market was a celebration of iconic eateries and diverse flavors. From traditional Indian thalis to innovative desserts, Gole Market remains a testament to Delhi’s vibrant and ever-evolving food culture.
