Abstract: A control technique for a three wheeler power train driven by a Synchronous Reluctance Motor(SynRM) is introduced which employs Direct Torque Control (DTC) . SynRM technology combines the benefits of induction motors and PM motors, and it operates at synchronous speed. Because of some of the problems related to manufacturing, controllability, and slightly lower power factor, these motors were not considered for Electric Vehicles (EV) and other applications till recently. However SynRM technology has been advanced and already commercialized for several industrial applications. Because of non availability of rare earth metals, SynRM is now one among the prefered motors for EV applications. Mathematical modeling along with DTC of SynRM is implemented in MATLAB Simulink software.
