Blindness affects 36 million people worldwide. 8.8 million of these 36 million live in India. The most common causes of blindness in India are cataracts, uncorrected refractive errors, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and corneal opacity. Winston Churchill once said that "we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give" Dr.M.Nivean Academic Director of M.N. Eye Hospital made it his mission and vision to give back to the community in his own way by making “the secret of living is giving” his mantra.. From conducting camps to performing free cataract surgeries for the underprivileged community, Dr. M. Nivean has been involved in various CSR activities throughout his career. During his conversations with the patients, he realized that their villages lack access to eye care, and that his approach and empathy brought comfort and trust to them. With this motivation, he has launched his dream project M.N Eye Orange Vision Centre across Chennai, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur, targeting areas which are less or do not have access to eye care. Providing quality and affordable eye care to all will fulfill his desire to serve the community and reach the unreached .
