Did the Gospel authors copy each other? Tonight, we undertake a deep forensic study of the Holy Scriptures to uncover the literary relationship between Matthew, Mark, and Luke. We move beyond simple reading to demonstrate—word for word—how the later authors edited, polished, and "fixed" the grammar and theology of the first Gospel. In this video, we cover: Part 1: The Primacy of Mark & The Q Source We analyze the "Voice in the Wilderness" prophecy and the story of the Leper to show how Matthew and Luke corrected Mark’s use of the Old Testament and altered the portrayal of Jesus' emotions. We also explore the "Q" source and Papias' reference to the Hebrew Logia. Part 2: The Battle of the Narratives We place the genealogies side-by-side to reveal the theological reasons they differ. More importantly, we map out the contradictory timelines of the Birth Narratives. Did the family flee to Egypt, or did they return peacefully to Nazareth? Part 3: The Resurrection & The Original Ending Finally, we examine the earliest manuscripts, including Codex Sinaiticus, to show that the original Gospel of Mark ended at verse 8 with no post-resurrection appearances. We also analyze the geographical contradiction between the command to go to Galilee versus the command to stay in Jerusalem. Key Historical Locations: This video analyzes texts centered around Jerusalem, the Wilderness of Judea, Bethlehem, and Galilee. We also discuss the historical context of the Dead Sea Scrolls found at Qumran and the origins of the Septuagint in Alexandria.
