ABOUT THE SONG This song is a homage to the Cuban Revolution, and is so stuffed full of references and quotes that it should be nationalised. The quotes: "Shoot Now If You Must" is what Che Guevara told his murderers before they shot him (on orders of the CIA). He ended the sentence with "You are only going to kill a man" "You cannot kill ideas" is what Lieutenant Pedro Sarria told his men when they captured Fidel after his first botched uprising in 1953, so that they would not shoot him there and then. "Not red, but olive green" is the tongue in cheek way Fidel described his political movement during the Cuban Revolution. "We'll make mistakes, but don't give up" is what Fidel told the Cuban people during his first speech after the Revolution triumphed in 1959. THE MAKING OF THE VIDEO The video was made by painstakingly collecting old footage of 1950s and early 1960s Cuba, editing it into a story, and then running this through an AI filter to give it a more colourful, and animated appearance. Oh, and the intro is a strong nod and wink to the A-Team! MORE INFO ON CUBA: Decades on, the Cuban Revolution has achieved much more than it could ever have dreamed. It threw out the corrupt elites, it threw out the mafia, and put on trial all those responsible for the horrors during the Batista era. It gave people housing - so that it has one of the highest home ownership rates in the world. Its healthcare system is envied by many nations, its doctors go around the world to serve the world's poorest, its education system so proficient the country has 11% of the scientists in Latin America, despite accounting for just 2% of its population. Cuba played an important role in the downfall of apartheid - which is why Nelson Mandela praised Castro his entire life and said that he was "a source of inspiration to all freedom-loving peoples." Cuba was the first country to sign and the second to ratify the Discrimination against Women convention, and even has a law that makes men do a fair share of the housework. Cuba has achieved all this despite being absolutely throttled economically by the most powerful superpower the world has ever known - the USA. They make it illegal for people, corporations, and even countries, to trade with Cuba. It therefore becomes difficult for Cuba to obtain the most basic of goods and services, from banking and oil, to incubators and guitar strings. The U.S. even tried to jail a man for giving a plaster to a Cuban chef who cut his finger.
