The African Village Where Childbirth Is Forbidden - Ghana

In Mafi Dove, Southern Ghana, childbirth is prohibited. Women are not allowed to have their babies within the village because it is considered offensive to the gods. Unlike other places in Ghana where residents are allowed to freely give birth to their children, Mafi Dove has certain customs that stop its inhabitants from doing so. In a community that has over 5000 residents, it’s hard to imagine that for many years, its indigenes were born in neighboring towns and cities. Mafi Dove is still governed by a set of old traditions and customs that residents have passed from one generation to the other. The elders of Mafi Dove have given several reasons for the refusal of childbirth within their community. According to Kwame Gbuna, one of the village elders, the unique customs of the land were passed down from its founder, Togbe Gbewofia Akiti.
