Welp, happy 40th anniversary Master of Puppets... what more can I say... haha. Metallica, one of the forefront bands that had such a massive impact for me as a guitar player. I can only thank Guitar Hero III for having the song One as a playable track... as that was my first introduction to the band. Inevitably, I was introduced to Master of Puppets through a very niche source, and that's a funny story I can talk about in the distant future. However, I never realized how much the band was going to define me for the entirety of my "guitar career" and high school life. You can ask any of the folks I attended high school with, and they can tell you that was my identity was the metal kid that talked about Metallica constantly. Trying to learn Master of Puppets back then was a futile effort due to the lack of my guitar skills, and it was still hard to do it now because I'm still not that awesome at guitar. Man, that down-picking is torturous if you don't spend enough time practicing the technique for it. When I was planning on doing this cover, I actually thought about dropping it because I just wasn't able to down-pick the song effectively. Then there is Kirk's guitar solo, which was also even more troublesome because of the legato consistent picking at the start, little slide accident thing in the middle, the pinch harmonic dive bomb, the harmonic section afterwards, the double bends toward the end; man what a pain. There was also a little section there that does the scale pattern which was also difficult, I honestly think my wrist was telling me that Carpal Tunnel was imminent if I didn't stop practicing that lick... Regardless, despite my complaining. I just want to thank Metallica for creating this wonderful expression of music and art, and another thanks for giving me material that allowed me to practice and play harder as a guitar player. I hope that this cover tribute was worthy of your playing and music, and that I will continue to grow as a musician on this guitar journey. A guitar journey that I have to partly thank James, Lars, Kirk, Cliff, Jason, and Rob for. I sincerely hope that I'll be able to witness them live sometime soon! PS. Don't subscribe, because I have no idea what a consistent upload schedule is. PPS. I actually never watched Stranger Things, I just know that they used this song for that one part.
