►Replacing your Volvo XC90's rear brakes at home is an easy way to stay safe. Rear brake health is critical to your car's stopping ability, and worn components will significantly degrade their performance. The typical lifespan for a set of rear brakes ranges from 40,000 to 60,000 miles, depending on driving conditions, but most modern cars feature a wear sensor that'll alert you when there are roughly 1000 miles of pad wear material remaining. However, it's possible for brake components to wear earlier. If you feel juddering or shaking from the brake pedal and steering wheel as you brake, then your rotors are likely warped and need replacing. Brake pads won't give off any tell-tale signs like that until their wear material has gone and the metal backing plate is forced against the disc. That'll come with a serious grinding sound and reduced braking ability.
