My First 6 Months as a Doctor (what it's really like)

❤️ To be honest I almost didn't upload this video. It's the hardest video I've made to date, and I was afraid to hit publish out of shame/embarrassment and a fear of the response. I filmed it at the start of February 2023, exactly 6 months after starting work as a doctor - and more than 2 months later I've finally decided to post it in the hopes that it might be helpful to at least one person out there - medical student, fellow junior doctor, or anyone else. I've tried to give a balanced account of my personal experience - both the good and the not-so-good. I hoped it might help to normalise conversations around work that don't focus solely on the positive. My first 6 months of working as a doctor in the UK's National Health Service have been a rollercoaster of emotions and personal growth. Overall it has been an amazing learning experience that I won't forget - I'm so grateful for everything and all the opportunities I've had in my life and I know that I'm speaking from a position of huge privilege for which I feel very lucky. Everyone's journey is different, this is just my personal experience!
